Islam in Great Britain
In this issue, the Reeves continue partnering with new churches, Tarl and Adrienne celebrate their 9th wedding anniversary, and Islam has a serious public relations problem in London.
Our Ministry
Starting in May, Tarl attended Fellowship Week in MO along with several churches in MO, IN, GA, and KY. Our busy schedule has eased up some, as we’ve moved into the Summer months. We are excited though to be able to start traveling together as a family again this month, as our vehicle is now fixed. Thank you for your prayers!
Before we can leave for London next May, we need about 30 more churches to partner with us. Please pray that every church we visit this fall and next spring will seriously consider helping us in reaching London for Christ.
Our Family
We’d like to thank all of those that sent us cards and notes as we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary in June. It’s encouraging to hear from so many people we’ve met over the past 2 years.
Also, Beckham went to his very first year of VBS at one of our supporting churches, Blackshear Place Baptist. He had a great time learning all the new songs and stories.
Our Field
In an effort to counter negative views of Muslims in Great Britain, the Exploring Islam Foundation has launched a series of Inspired by Muhammad ads in London.
A spokesman for the Quilliam Foundation, a counter-extremism group which seeks to promote a “British Islam... free from the bitter politics of the Arab and Muslim world,” told London’s Independent, “This campaign is important because it can help non-Muslims to better understand the faith that inspires and guides their Muslim friends, neighbors and colleagues.”
According to Islamonline, a YouGov poll of 2,152 adults conducted for the foundation last month in Great Britain found that 58% associated Islam with extremism and 50% associated the religion with terrorism. Only 13% thought Islam was based on peace and 69% thought Islam encouraged the repression of women. Asked if Islam had a positive impact on British society, 4 in 10 disagreed.
Please pray for guidance and opportunities in witnessing to Muslims in the UK.
